David was born to John Rodney McEwing and Bertha Englebrect McEwing, November 22nd, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois. He received a Bachelors in Economics from Northern Illinois University in 1973, a Bachelors in Chemistry from University of Southern Maine in 1993, and earned a Juris Doctor in law from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1978. He married Norma Alvarado in 2004. They reside in Houston, Texas. Together they helped raised each other’s children since 1999.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Alvarado-McEwing; his sister, Kathleen McEwing; his children Lindsay McEwing, Mark McEwing (Allison) and Steven Serrano (Kimberly Cowell); grandchildren Melody, Xavier, Jack, Dylan, Ryder, Levi, and Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and John McEwing and his brother John McEwing.
David was a self-employed employed Patent Attorney in Houston since 1993 after working many years in the corporate world. Founder of Mirr eHealthview. He enjoyed collecting and reading rare books, poems of Robert Frost, classical music, singing to his wife and socializing with friends. He loved his life with Norma and reminded her every day. David was very proud of his children and loved all three of them very much. He was a member of Congregation Shma Koleinu. He was affectionately called Grandpa Bear by his grandchildren who he adored and was everyone’s favorite uncle, grandparent, and friend. David became best buddies and breakfast partners with Norbert Alvarado, his father-in-law. David was a believer of science, social justice for people of color, LGBTQ rights and women’s rights. He was genuinely a good human being.
A gathering will be held December 11th, 2021, 4:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home with a Ceremony officiated by Rabbi Scott at 5:00 pm. A reception will follow at Holland Hall located inside Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the Alvarado family, Norma’s work family at HMH, close friends for their support, love, and generosity.
