Daniel Lewis, 85, a native son of Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019, in Katy, Texas, with Jewel, his loving wife of almost fifty years at his side.
Daniel Lewis was born on September 15, 1934, in Eastman, Georgia, to John Lee and Carrie Bell Lewis. They, along with his brother, Ernest Brown, preceded Dan in death. He had one sister, Ruby Robinson. Daniel attended the Eastman Public school, playing baseball.
On September 15, 1952, Daniel answered his nation’s call, joining the U.S. Army. He served twenty-nine years rising to the rank of prestigious Master Sergeant, Daniel received ( Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Medal), and numerous other awards of distinction, retiring in 1981.
Daniel married his best friend and confidant, Jewel Roberson, on November 20, 1971. In 1974 Daniel and Jewel started a family with Paul, their only son. Dan excelled as a husband, father, protector, and provider.
After the Army, Daniel began working with the Department of State until 1996. During his time with the State Department, he received the “Certificate of Distinction.” After leaving this service, he remained a consultant in a support role to assist his country with the “War on Terror. ”
Daniel was an avid sportsman who thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and gardening. He took great pride in his “yard-scaping and won “Yard of the Month" from his Homeowner’s Association.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife Jewel, son Paul, sister Ruby Robinson, grandson Daniel, granddaughter Paula, great-granddaughter Jada, and a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins, and friends.
