Dale Ricardo Wood

Dale Ricardo "Rick" Wood, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Houston, Texas, on April 2, 2025. Born on December 3, 1954, Rick was a faithful husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, and a cherished member of his church and community.

Rick leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Vivian Lanai Atkins Wood; sons, Marvin Poore (49) and Nathan Poore (45); and four grandchildren, Skye Nunez, Tyler Poore, Nathan Poore Jr., and Isabella Poore. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie William Wood and Gladys Rice Wood, and his sister Sue Ellis, and brother Butch. He is survived by his twin sister Vicky "Vic" Bassford.

Rick graduated from Niceville High School in Florida and furthered his education at DeVry Technical School in Alabama, becoming a skilled electronic technician. He devoted over 40 years of dedicated service to Baker Hughes, starting from its earlier days as Dresser Industries.

Rick's Christian journey began at Bellaire West Baptist Church, where he was saved and baptized. A long-standing member of Horizon Baptist Church, previously Heritage Baptist Church, Rick faithfully served as a deacon, choir member, evangelist, visitation team member, and regularly ministered at local retirement homes. He was known for his genuine love of people and passion for sharing the gospel.

A quiet man of unwavering faithfulness, Rick will be remembered for his gentle kindness, dry British-style humor, and willingness to help anyone in need. He was a talented craftsman, skilled guitarist, avid motorcyclist, and marksman who valued friendships and simple pleasures in life.

A memorial service celebrating Rick’s life will be held at Horizon Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Family visitation begins at 10:00 AM, followed by open visitation at 11:00 AM, and the service at noon. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Horizon Baptist Church in honor of Rick’s legacy and commitment to Christ.
