Consuelo Maria Salazar of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully November 3, 2016. She was born June 9, 1921 and was preceded in death by her husband Nasario (Sal) K. Salazar. Connie is survived by daughter Dolores and husband John S. Boon, son Robert and wife Mary, son Louis, son Albert and wife Karen, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Connie was born in Cerro, New Mexico to Nicholas Salazar and Damiana Montoya Salazar. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri during World War II where she found employment as an aircraft mechanic and met Nasario. They married and after the war they moved to Houston.
Connie and Sal owned and operated dry cleaning businesses from which they eventually retired. She served 20 years with great compassion and care in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at All Saint’s Church and was honored with many awards. A committed supporter and advisor of All Saints’ Food Pantry, instructor at the Senior Volunteer Program, and an Altar Society member, she was always available especially to those in need. She also volunteered in her voting precinct for 10 years.
Ardent baseball fans, she and Sal spent several seasons traveling across America to see the Houston Astros. They instilled the love of baseball in many family and friends. Precious mother, friend, and mentor, this beloved gentle lady will be deeply grieved and missed.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10:00 am in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Interment follows at Historic Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 North Main Street, Houston, Texas 77009.
