Clifford Faggans Sr. “The Pride of Sunnyside” was born in Longview, Texas to Scott Clayborn and Emma Ruth Faggans on August 20, 1951. After moving to Houston in the sixties, he graduated from Evan E. Worthing High School in 1969 and then attended Texas Southern University. Clifford gave his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Church in Houston, Texas.
Early in adulthood he was an active member of the Black Panther Party where he participated in fighting for civil rights and disparities in the Black community. In matrimony, he joined Joycelyn (Marcelous) Faggans on May 26, 1979, where he gained a son (Derrick Marcelous) and then later blessed with three more children (Scotty, Rachel and C. Tyrone Faggans). They later divorced in 2003 and remained dedicated parents and friends.
Clifford worked as a Driver for Methodist Hospital for many years and then retired in 1996. With his passion for teaching and equipping the youth, he went back to Texas Southern University, where he studied Psychology and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychological Studies in 2008. He was also a member of TSU’s Psychology Club and various Christian organizations on campus. Clifford was an avid Historian and his walk with Christ led in the forefront. His favorite thing to do was study the gospel and listen to music, favoring gospel and old Motown classics. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he always stressed the importance of family! Clifford Faggans transitioned to be with the Lord in Glory on November 17, 2022 with his children at his bedside.
Clifford Faggans is preceded in death by his father (Scott Clayborn), mother (Emma Ruth Faggans), brothers (Augusta and Scotty), stepson (Derrick Marcelous).
Clifford Faggans is survived by sons, Scotty Faggans and Clifford Tyrone Faggans Jr. (Tamika), daughter, Rachel Faggans (Shun Kennedy), one brother, Eddie Faggans (Alice), two granddaughters, Cacey Faggans and Sydney Faggans, and a host of relatives and friends.
