Charlotte Grace Sutherland

She was born on January 26, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas to George Grover and Mildred Grace Sutherland. She graduated valedictorian of Ingleside High School in Ingleside, Texas and went on to further her education at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She worked alongside her husband Kenneth Wayne Wood at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas for many years, serving on mission trips abroad and leading the Lakewood Church children’s ministry. She entered the workforce in 1988 as a florist and went on to further her career as a civilian employee for Texas Department of Criminal Justice and Harris County Sheriff’s Department, where she was benefits coordinator from 1991 until her retirement in 2002. She lead a life with a strong Christian faith in God, and had a wonderful gift of encouragement, and always put others first. Her light of love will shine forever in the hearts and minds of her family and all those who knew her.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Wood, daughter Wendy Chartier, brother Leroy Sutherland, sister Joan Murray, mother Mildred Sutherland, father George Sutherland and uncle James Monroe Sutherland.

She is survived by daughter Rebecca Oberpriller of Houston, Texas, son James Wood, daughter-in-law Rachel Wood, and grandchildren Dalton and Lauren Wood, of Katy, Texas

Funeral services will be held at Earthman Funeral Home, 8303 Katy Frwy, Houston, TX 77024, on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at 11:00 am, with Pastor Bud Turnage officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 am. Private interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr, Houston, Texas 77055.
