Charles Scholz

L. Charles Scholz was born in Marshall, Texas, on October 1, 1937 to Madelyn Blackburn Scholz and Leo Scholz, who preceded him in death along with sisters, Ruth Tuminello of Baton Rouge, LA and Mary Alice Ingram of Natchitoches, LA. He is survived by his youngest sister, Sara Scholz Abney and brother-in-law James Kenneth Abney, Jr., of Dallas Texas.

Charles was married to his college sweetheart, Sally Enloe Scholz for 56 years. Daughters are Ann Marie Scholz Martinez, husband Rene Roger Martinez of Port Alto, TX, and Diane Scholz Jackson, and husband John Edward (“Chip”) Jackson III of Austin, TX. Grandchildren include Laurel Violet of Austin, TX, daughter of Ann Marie and Rene Martinez and Madison Leigh Jackson of Fayetteville, AR, Grayson Elisabeth Jackson, Reagan Marie Jackson, and Kemper Charles Jackson of Austin, TX, children of Diane and Chip Jackson. Nieces and nephews include April Abney Lambert (Russell) of Dallas, TX, James Kenneth Abney III of Fayetteville, AR, Ralph Cherry Ingram (Lucille) of Natchitoches, LA, John Malcom Ingram (Sherry) of Lena, LA, Neal Mason Ingram (Kay) of Niwot, CO.

In 1956, Charles graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, TX. He went on to earn a BBA degree in Marketing from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX. He served his country as an Army Lieutenant at Ft. Sill, OK, from 1960-1962.

Charles had an exciting career in the oil and gas industry. He worked for seven distinguished companies: Humble Oil and Refining, Samedan Oil Corporation, Home Petroleum Corporation, Robert Mosbacher Incorporated, Vernon Faulconer Incorporated, Union Texas Petroleum Corporation, and Nippon Oil Exploration.

He was a member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen for 50 years. Charles was also a member of the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen and was named HAPL Landman of the year in 1979. He was a Director for the World Oilmen’s Tennis Tournament and a member of Outer Continental Shelf Committee, Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, and Petroleum Club of Houston.

Charles had a devout, Catholic faith and served as a member in many Catholic charity organizations: Knights of Columbus (4th Degree); The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, and of Rhodes, and of Malta (Knight of Magistral Grace); Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre (Knight Grand Cross of the Holy Sepulchre); Knight of the Constantinian Order of St. George; and St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Houston, TX.

Charles had many hobbies over the years: hunting, sailing, tennis, genealogy, civil war history, traveling, and spending time at his ranch in Edna, TX.

He loved his wife, Sally, their daughters, grandchildren and being with all of his extended family. He was generous with his time and mentored men and women in the oil and gas industry throughout his career. He was also generous with his resources and loved people and giving everyone in need a helping hand. Serving his Lord was one of his greatest passions.
