Charlie was born in New Braunfels, Texas in 1936 to Raymond Erich Buchner and Leona Mary Pape Buchner. He grew up in San Antonio and attended Jefferson High and the old Edison High School. Charles served in the 112th Armored Cavalry and later worked for many years at Trunk Line Gas Company as an aircraft mechanic. After retirement he worked at an aviation museum.
Charlie loved the natural beauty and animals of the Texas Hill Country. He took great pleasure in walking with his dog Bubba in the area around Canyon Lake. Earlier he had saved Bubba's life when he found the Anatolian Karabash seriously injured on the side of the road. Bubba partially recovered thanks to Charlie's care and eventually Charlie had a special canine wheelchair made for his sidekick and loyal companion. Bubba passed away in 2007 and other dogs, cats, birds and deer have had the honor of being Charlie's companion.
Charlie loved to walk in the footsteps of his German ancestors who came to Texas beginning in 1845. He was dedicated to studying genealogy and he was a member of the Comal County Genealogical Society and the German-Texan Heritage Society.
Charlie was preceded in death by his father Raymond, his mother Leona and his daughter Erica Ann.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gardner Buchner, his brother, Ray Buchner and wife Noreen, daughter, Debra Buchner Leal and husband Eddie Lea, son, Charles "Buddy" William Buchner Jr. and wife Cindy. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers: Buddy Buchner, Sonny Buchner, Eddie Leal, Clint Leal, E.J. Leal and Keith Gardner.
