Charles Felton Boyd, age 83, passed from this life on June 14, 2022. He was born July 20, 1938 in Goodrich, TX to Clarence Felton and Eva May (Glidden) Boyd. He is now reunited in Heaven with his wife, Lois.
Charles' formative years were spent in small central and east Texas communities. His parents were school teachers and they moved frequently. Fortunately, he loved making new friends. He often spoke fondly of his childhood friends and the adventures they had while attending a two teacher school in Pontotoc, near Brady, TX. He loved and appreciated the outdoors. As a child his parents had taken him on trips to Big Bend and Grand Canyon National Park and he was eager to share these experiences with his own family and friends. He enjoyed camping, hiking, model airplanes and rock collecting. His family also lived for a few years in Goodrich, TX where he participated in school sports. He finished his high school career in Tomball in 1956 where he excelled in track and field and was ranked 2nd in the state in his event.
Charles attended Sam Houston State College and received a degree in math and physics. While in college, he met the love of his life, Lois Ann McGill. After graduation he joined the U. S. Navy and attended Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. He and Lois were married in 1962 and spent the first few years of their marriage in Honolulu, HI at Pearl Harbor Naval Base. It was while they were living there that their daughter, Teri, was born. After returning from Hawaii they settled in the Houston area where Brent was born in 1965. Charles spent one year as a high school math teacher and then began working for Texaco Oil Co. He spent the rest of his career working for them as a computer systems specialist. After his retirement from Texaco he continued to be very active. He created an income tax preparation business and also owned and operated the Tee Wood driving range in Tomball, TX. He was an avid golfer and played many rounds at the Northgate Country Club. He and Lois were very active in their local church and for several years he worked for the Eastern European Mission (EEM), which prints and distributes Bibles and Christian literature in many different languages.
"Granny and Grandad" loved spending time with their grandkids and took them on many very special trips. Disney World, Big Bend, Grand Canyon, Colorado Springs and Washington D. C. were some of their favorites. Charles was easy to be around. He had a sharp wit, and a jolly sense of humor. He was known to be a problem solver and at family gatherings he would often try to stump everyone with some puzzle or riddle that he had solved. Like his father before him, he was a natural "handyman", and he used his analytical skills to do most of his own home and car repairs before "You Tube". He was the family's voice of reason during troublesome times and his life will stand as a quiet and humble example of spiritual living.
Charles was preceded in death by Lois, his wife of 60 years, his parents and his sister, Janis Hill. He is survived by his daughter, Teri (Joe) Peoples; son, Brent Boyd; grandsons, Daniel, Ryan, and Spencer Boyd, and Nicholas Peoples; granddaughter, Katie Peoples; great granddaughter, Eden Boyd; and brother, Billy Boyd.
