Bobby L. Newman

Bobby Lynn Newman, born on the 30th of October 1936, entered Eternal Rest on the 20th of November 2024. Preceded in death by loving parents, the late King & Vivian Newman of Garden Oaks, Houston, and older brother, Jerry Alden Newman of Beaumont.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Anne Newman; his sons, Bryan Newman, and Bobby King Newman; his grandson, Bobby King Newman II; his step-grandchildren, Natalie Lindsey, Michael DeAyala, and Christian DeAyala; and his step-great-granddaughter, Margot Lindsey all of Houston. He is also survived by loving relatives too numerous to name.

Bobby, a lifelong Houstonian from the age of six attended Garden Oaks Baptist Church, Garden Oaks Elementary, Alexander Hamilton Jr. High, and John H. Reagan High School. In 1955, began his career as a civil engineer, then joined the Houston Police Department at the age of nineteen. After a year or two with HPD entered the workforce as a Design Engineer for Houston Pipe Line, Bechtel- Houston and a host of others while continuing education at the U of H Law School Downtown Campus.

Mid 60’s met and married his wife, Anne. In 1970 began Acta Investigations Inc., a private investigations business which quickly rose to be the largest private investigative firm in Houston whose services were engaged by major corporations around the globe. He remained president and CEO for the next 44 years, until he sold the business in 2014. He co-owned the building and kept a personal office there until 2017.

Bobby loved the outdoors, especially the water. During the years our boys were growing up, outside extracurricular activities, travel, hunting seasons at the ranch, our family weekends were spent boating at Lakeway on Lake Travis & Horseshoe Bay waters (pets in tow) until our sons graduated college. When that happened Bobby graduated to salt water and bigger boats and that love lasted coast to coast from 1991 to 2017.

Bobby was a good son, husband, father & friend...Loved animals & most people. He enjoyed friendships from elementary school, Jr. High and Sr. High that lasted throughout his life. Friends he met through work, boating, all along life’s way are among his many friends to this day. Bobby was a generous man, a believer, well-read, well-travelled, a lover of music, a great dancer and a unique personality and he will be forever missed by those of us lucky enough to know and love him and to be loved by him. “God’s gift to us is what we are; Our gift to God is what we become.”

The Newman family extends their heartfelt gratitude and kindest regards to Memory Care staff and caregivers at Brookdale Shadowlake and the wonderful Lotus Hospice angels there.

A celebration in honor of Bobby’s life is to be conducted at half-past eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 11th of December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
