Betty Jean Dumas

Betty Jean Dumas, 88, beloved by all who knew her, went to be with her Lord on May 3, 2016. She was born on July 27, 1927, in Ashdown, Arkansas, the daughter of Jentus “Hoss” and Minnie “Nanny” Matthews, but moved to Houston as a child and made it her permanent home. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother, a loyal employee of Harrisburg Bank for 42 years and an avid Astros fan.

Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband of 55 years, William Dargan “Buddy” Dumas, and by her brother, Jentus “Jim” Matthews. She is survived by two daughters, Gina and Donna Dumas; sister, Lana Grasmeder; sister-in-law, Betty Matthews Hood; nieces, Susanna Watson and husband Joe, Janey Busby and husband Don, Caryl Custer and husband Art, and Mindy Ramirez and husband Jorge; nephews Raleigh Albury, David Albury and Matthew Grasmeder; numerous great nieces, great nephews and friends; and her “honorary daughters”, Julie Ellis and Marty Simpson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 9:00 PM on Monday the 9th at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday the 10th in the Family Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, followed by a reception at the Funeral Home and a private interment at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
