Bernice Justine Muzny-Turner Abalos was born May 10, 1926 in Ellinger, Texas. Preceded in death by mother Justine (Muzny) Mince, brother Charles Turner, sister Katherine Drake and 4 of her 6 sons; Ronald William Walker, Donald Wayne Walker, George William Walker Jr. and Kim Alan Sorsby.
Bernice passed away on March 8, 2018 after suffering a stroke on February 26, 2018, was hospitalized at Methodist Willowbrook and then moved to the care of Heart to Heart Hospice & Avid Care Cottages. The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate employees at both Heart to Heart and Avid Care.
Bernice lived in Ellinger until her teens but moved to Galveston where she lived with her Aunt Pearl. Bernice was married several times, but the love of her life and first marriage was George William Walker who she married on September 26, 1944.
She was a home-maker but upon becoming a single-mom, worked several jobs to support herself and children. These included, but were not limited to, waitressing, selling ACAA Insurance, Tupperware and Avon. She also was a much sought after bartender and club manager.
She is survived by sons Patrick B. Walker and wife Ginger and Richard Charles Walker and wife Tonya, 15 grandchildren and spouses), numerous great-grandchildren and several great/great-grandchildren. A visitation will be on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm with a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm at Pat H. Foley & Company. Her funeral service will be on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:30 am at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 W 34th. St. Houston, Texas 77018. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr. Houston, Texas 77055.
