Bennie Sue, 88, was born in 1936 in Murfreesboro, AR. She lived in Houston most of her adult life, until she passed on June 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband; Olmedo, her Father; Sirvetus Womack her Mother; Julia Mae, and her Brother; Si. She is survived by her 4 Stepchildren; Carlos, Paul, Peter and George Galindo, 6 Grandchildren; Justin, Lauren, Dan, Michael, Brittany, and Madeline and 11 great grandchildren. It’s important to mention her longtime friends and confidants Steve and Robin O’Neal. (Steve, was a blessing always there by her side till the end.)
Bennie Sue spent a lot of her career working in the insurance business. Where she met Steve and they became fast friends. As coworkers, he looked to her, for her expertise of 401K plans, and she treated him like the son she never had. Then she started her own company administering 401K plans, and finished her career self-employed. Sometime following the death of her Husband, she sold her business and began her retirement working as a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Bennie and her late husband both suffered heart conditions which led to many visits to St. Luke’s. Spending many hours in the waiting room there wondering what went on behind those doors, she decided to find out by volunteering. She began devoting 4 days each week in the South Coronary Care Unit waiting room serving as a liaison between patients’ families and hospital staff. She always said this was the place she was meant to be, as it gave her the chance to help and explain to families what goes on while they are waiting. Bennie felt that a warm smile and kind words could soothe a hurting heart. She also volunteered in the Radiology Department helping to log patient demographics in the computer database and served a one-year term as President of the Auxiliary. The hospital staff and families enjoyed Bennie’s avid baking skills as she always brought many homemade candies, cookies, and other goodies to share with all.
Due to health concerns including Dementia and Macular degeneration eye disease, Bennie Sue was no longer able to drive and had to stop her volunteer work. Further health concerns led her to need nursing care, where she spent her final days.
She will have a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes your consideration in making a memorial donation in Bennie Sue Galindo’s honor to St. Luke's Foundation if you so choose:
