Barbara Mae Lord was born December 1, 1938 to Harry A. Lord and Geraldine Holloway in Lockport, Illinois. As a young child she moved with her family to Pleasantville, NY and then Massapequa, NY since her father was transferred by Texaco to the New York City office. She and her brother, Richard G. Lord, enjoyed many happy hours in New York state, especially the beaches around their home in Long Island.
Transferred back to Illinois before she finished middle school, the family lived for seven years in the refining town of Lawrenceville, IL. From there she would attend the University of Illinois and then Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital eventually attaining her Registered Medical Technologist certification.
She married Keith D. Quackenbush with whom she had three children: Keith David, Jr., Susan Diane, and Laura Jean. They separated and divorced while living in the Washington, D.C. area. Barbara and her three children moved to Houston, TX at that time to be near her parents.
She met and married her true love, Dr. Norman H. Moore, Jr. in 1968 in the chapel of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church and they happily combined their families and became a “Brady Bunch” family with five children, Charles Gregory Moore, Marget Leslie Moore, Keith David Quackenbush, Susan Diane Quackenbush Moore, and Laura Jean Quackenbush Moore. Their very happy marriage continued for over 50 years – filled with raising the young children together, playing golf, and traveling.
Barbara became a realtor which she enjoyed for a few years, taught aerobics, and did some modeling with two different agencies in Houston for over twelve years. She worked in Norman’s medical office for seventeen years until they retired in 2008.
She is survived by her children David Quackenbush and his wife Mary Kay; Marget Moore Sablatura and her husband John; Susan Moore; Laura Moore. She had six grandchildren that she loved so very much: Ashley Blalock, Madison Clement, Katie Quackenbush Ivie, Kendall Quackenbush, Cody Moore, and David Sablatura. She has five great grandchildren: Chloe Ivie, Justin Ivie, Jr., Genevieve Davey, Owen Moore, and Jackson Moore. She is also survived by her brother, Dr. Richard G. Lord and his wife Josephine Frush Lord of Champaign, IL., her Sister-in-Law, Francee June Moore of Atlanta, GA., and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman H. Moore, Jr. her son Charles Gregory Moore, and her parents Harry A. Lord and Geraldine H. Lord.
A special mention of “The Lunch Bunch” – Susan Dotson, Gail Watts, Brenda Barzilla, and Gail Batson - who provided wonderful friendship and companionship for many years, The Pathways Sunday school class at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church who provided much support and joy, and Effie Martinez who kept our surroundings sparkling so faithfully and cheerfully!
Editorial Note: Our mother was very good with planning and organization. As an example, she wrote the above many years ago, which only required minor edits for today. However, we want everyone to know that she was the glue that held our “Brady Bunch” together, but also had time to record 10 holes-in-one during both casual and tournament golf. Her children will miss her very much.
A celebration of life and memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in the Chapel on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 11 AM. The service can be viewed online at https://OnlineMemorials.mdpc.org. Following the service there will be a reception at the church in the Parlor adjacent to the Chapel.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.memorialoaksfunerals.com for the Moore family.
