Barbara Ann Walker Berryhill

Barbara was born to Lester B. Walker and Cora Ellen Young Walker in Bryan, on the 8th of March 1940. Upon the death of her father, she and her sister were raised in Houston by their mother, an RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She graduated from Austin High in 1958 and then completed x-ray training at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Upon graduation, she worked for several years for Dr. W.W. O’Donnell, during which time she met Bill Berryhill at Central Church of Christ. Barbara and Bill married in 1962 and they moved to the Bellaire area and had their first child, Shonda, in 1963. Children Ben David and Sharla followed by 1969. As a stay at home mother, Barbara was very involved in her church and the Bellaire community and schools. She then attended Houston Baptist University and graduated magna cum laude in 1982, the same year her eldest child graduated from high school. She used her degrees in psychology and social work in her real estate career that followed.

She was a member of Memorial Church of Christ and Bellaire Historical Society. She enjoyed Masterpiece Theater, tea parties with her many friends, and most of all, her five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Shonda, and husband of 45 years, Bill. Survivors include son-in-law. Brian Conlee of Austin; son, Ben David and his wife Marianna Berryhill of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Sharla de Frere and her husband Mark of Austin; sister, Beverly Head of Missouri City; and grandchildren, Sean and Kinzy Conlee, Will and Kate de Frere, and Raymond Berryhill. She also leaves many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to thank Drs. Creighton Edwards and Simon Whitney, Dr. Larry Katz and the members of her cancer support group, Gentiva Hospice, and caregivers, Chantanee Moore and Leticia Deleon.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from three until five o’clock in the afternoon, Sunday, the 7th of December, in the drawing room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

The funeral service is to be conducted at half-past ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 8th of December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Honored to serve as casket bearers during the services are Brian Conlee, Ron Head, Steve Head, Scott Head, Robert Hoggard, and Randy Huck.

Interment is to follow, via an escorted cortège, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mrs. Berryhill’s name be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
