Anne Houston Hogan Irish

Anne Houston Hogan Irish passed away peacefully at her home and surrounded by her family on Tuesday, the 9th of July 2013. She was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, on the 3rd of August 1931, to Roberta John Hogan and Edward Leslie Hogan, Sr. Anne was a proud 5th generation Texan, the great-great granddaughter of Gen. Sam Houston, and her love of her heritage and Texas history was boundless. Anne attended St. Anne Catholic School, Lamar High School, Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., and the University of Texas at Austin. At UT, Anne was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and it was there that she met her loving husband, Bill Irish, to whom she was married for 40 years at the time of his death in 1993. As a young lady, Anne was a member of Allegro, and later in life she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumni organization, a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Houston, a member of the San Jacinto Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a member of the Descendants of San Jacinto, and a member of Colonial Dames. She was formerly a member of the Advisory Board of the Sam Houston Museum in Huntsville and the Board of Directors of Hogan- Allnoch Company. She was a lifelong member of St. Anne Catholic Church, and a longtime member of the St. Anne Guild.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband William M. Irish IV; her beloved brothers and their wives, Edward Leslie Hogan, Jr., and wife Louise, and Robert John Hogan and wife Mary. She is survived by her son; William M. “Cinco” Irish V, and his wife Teresa; her daughter Kathy Irish Scott and her husband John; and their children Mary Elyse Scott, Molly Houston Scott, and John Patrick Scott, Jr.; and by her son, John Rommel Irish. The family would also like to express their deep gratitude to Anne’s wonderful caregivers over the last 5 years, Bevyline Dodson, Sylvia Thomas, Sandra Charles, and especially to her dear friend Erma Green.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 11th of July, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

At a later date, the family will gather for a private entombment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, in Houston, where Anne will be entombed near her parents and alongside her husband.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests that memorial contributions, in Anne’s honor, be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
