Virginia Ann Young Stutts (Ann) passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on January 8, 2023, in the loving company of family. Ann was born July 1, 1935, in Houston, Texas to Gene and Mildred Young. Ann grew up in Houston where she graduated from Lamar High School in 1954. She married the love of her life, Joe Stutts in 1955, after meeting at First Baptist Church of Houston.
After her children were grown, Ann worked in the healthcare industry for many years, but her greatest gift was ministering to others. She cared for many family members and friends through illnesses and the end of life. She was a generous, compassionate person who loved giving of herself. She had a terrific sense of humor, and was very patient with everyone, both important attributes required in raising her four sometimes crazy kids!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Joe Ross Stutts. She is survived by her children Joe R Stutts, Jr. (Laura), David Stutts (Carla), Laurie Stutts and Amy Martin (Chris); brother Dr. John Terry Young (Marriana); grandchildren Blake Stutts (Robin), Kevin Stutts (Mandy), Alex Martin; great grandchildren Colby, Logan, Cara, and Alice Stutts, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.
While she grew up and spent her early married life attending First Baptist Church of Houston, she was also a long-time member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church, Houston where she enjoyed many years in the Magnolia Sunday School Class. Most recently she was a member of Second Baptist Church, Houston where she was a member of the Joy Bible Study. She was also a long-time member of The Guild at Houston Christian University.
A Celebration of Life service for Ann will be held Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the sanctuary at Willow Meadows Baptist Church, 4300 West Bellfort, Houston, TX 77035 with a reception to immediately follow in the Welcome Center.
