Ann R. Esposito was born Anna Rosaria Varrecchia on September 8, 1932, in New York to her Italian immigrant parents, Anna Varrecchia and Frederick (Fred) Varrecchia. The youngest of six children, she was the second born of twins, with her brother Edmund. Her mother prayed on the rosary for her to be born healthy, and gave her the middle name Rosaria, which means the rosary. Spirituality was always important to Ann. She was raised Roman Catholic and attended Baptist and Unity churches later in life.
She was raised in Ozone Park, Queens and graduated from John Adams High School. She attended secretarial school and pursued a career as a bookkeeper. Later in life, she became a legal and medical transcriptionist, a profession she held for decades.
In October 1954, she married Salvatore Esposito in Ozone Park, Queens. They enjoyed dancing together, especially Lindy hop. They moved to Valley Stream, NY, and had four children: Nancy, SallyAnn, Perry, and Jeanmarie, and five grandchildren: Gina-Marie, Vincent, Nicole, Thai, and Felicity. The family spent summers in Upstate, NY, and vacationed in Virginia Beach, VA, and Miami Beach, FL. In 1985, the couple separated, and Ann started a new life in Fort Lauderdale, FL. She lived in a beautiful development called Pine Island Ridge, where she served on the Board.
Ann enjoyed traveling and spent birthdays and holidays visiting her children. When Jeanmarie was performing professionally, Ann would proudly share that she never missed a show, and travelled all over the country, from Minnesota to North Carolina to Texas, to see Jeanmarie’s shows and cheer her on.
In 2022, she moved to Houston to be closer to Jeanmarie, David, and Felicity, and found her new spiritual family at Unity of Houston. She died peacefully on July 11, 2023, in Pearland, Texas, at the age of 90.
She loved being a mom and found pleasure in planning vacations for her family. She had a great sense of humor, and always had a group of girlfriends that called her “the life of the party.” She had a great proficiency in spelling and took pride in being able to spell any word, including long medical terminology. She was an excellent Italian cook and was known for her delicious eggplant parmigiana. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A graveside service at 10:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079.
