Amanda Marilyn Squyres Martin, age 59, peacefully passed away April 21, 2011, with her children at her side. Born in San Antonio, TX, and dividing her home between Houston, TX, and Conroe, TX, Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, John W Squyres, Sr. and his beloved wife, Mary E. Rice Squyres; her beloved husband, Eugene L. Martin, Jr.; her father-in-law, Eugene L. Martin, Sr.; her mother-in-law, Evelyn E. Martin; and her daughter, Ashley M. Thompson. Marilyn is survived by her children Jeff, Michele and Joshua Thompson; grandchildren Tyler Thompson, Laurallye Edwards, and Hannah Thompson; and seven siblings, Alan L. Squyres, Ramona Reed, John W Squyres, Jr., Pamela Roe, Laurie Squyres Harrison, Dartha Hanson, and Twila Martin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends. Marilyn completed a Bachelor of Arts (2 classes shy of a Masters) in business and finance, magna cum laude, from Kaplan University, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts in theology, magna cum laude, from Indiana Christian University. She volunteered for several meaningful organizations, and was a member in good standing of the National Association of Professional Women, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Alpha Beta Honor Society and the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society. Her hunger for knowledge was evident in her various accomplishments. Anyone who knew her, or had the pleasure of crossing her path, knows she gave her all in every aspect of her life, whether it concerned her health, her work, her family, her friends, or even relaxing and having a good time. With an enduring smile, Marilyn offered a helping hand to others no matter what was going on in her own life. She will be remembered for her kind heart, beautiful smile, infectious laugh and the way she showed her love for everyone, and will be missed by all.
In honor of Amanda Marilyn Squyres Martin, a service will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale in South Houston, 6900 Lawndale Ave. Houston, Tx 77023, Reverend Ed Bishop officiating.
