Alma was born on January 29, 1919 to Mamie and Harry Austin in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Within two years the family moved to Winter Garden, Florida, where many dear family members and friends live today. In 1946, she married John Hubert Huffman of Brownsville, Texas and they moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana where their first two sons were born. John’s job in the oil patch soon took the family to Monroe, where two more sons were born, and then to Lafayette, Louisiana. Alma and John’s last move together was to Victoria, Texas where John retired. John died in 1984 and Alma moved to Houston in 1989.
Throughout her life, Alma was active in the church, PTA and garden clubs. She loved to sew clothes for herself, her family, her friends and charity fundraisers. Since she moved to Houston, Alma was an active member in Grace Presbyterian Church. She also served as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House and its annual fundraising gala. Alma assumed the responsibility of family historian and she regaled the family with stories and shared photographs at every opportunity. She forged life-long friendships every place she lived.
