Alfonso Santana Garcia Sr.

Alfonso Santana Garcia Sr. (Popo), 74, of Houston, TX, passed away on May 9, 2023. Alfonso was born Sep. 12, 1948 in Brownsville, TX to Antonio and Carolina Garcia (both deceased). He was one of four children with siblings Mario Garcia (deceased), Antonio Garcia, Jr., and Jose Garcia. He was married to Beatrice Norma Garcia on Oct. 6, 1971. He graduated from Roy Miller High School and the Gary Job Corps. He worked as a security guard before retirement. Alfonso lived in Corpus Christi, TX until he relocated to Houston, TX in 1976. He loved to fish, dance, and watch football.

Alfonso is survived by his spouse Beatrice Garcia, children Alfonso S. Garcia Jr. (Nikki Mathis Garcia), Alexander Garcia, Alianna Ramos (Alejandro Ramos), grandchildren Isaac De La Cruz, Alessandra T. Garcia, Ehryq Mathis, Dahlia M. Ramos, Ruben A. Ramos, Nathan Garcia, and great-grandchildren Braxton M. Garcia, L. R. (Whimby), all of Houston, TX. He is also survived by Jose Juarez, Luz Davila, and multiple nieces and nephews.

Alfonso is preceded in death by Mario Garcia, Francisco and Juanita Barrera, Juanita Yanez, Juan and Gloria Cueva, Miguel Juarez, Alberto Davila, Francisco Jr., and Delia Barrera, Elizabeth M.Davila, and Gabriel Cueva.

Alfonso S. Garcia Sr. was not just a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He was the life of the party. He was the jokester. He was “Popo” Popo to anyone and everyone. You knew he liked you the moment he picked on you. And he picked on everybody! He will be missed but will never be forgotten. Remembered by those he leaves behind and those that are on the way.

A visitation for Alfonso will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. A rosary will occur Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 19, 2023 from 10:00 AM to, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
