Albert B Washington Jr.

He was the only child of Albert B. Washington Sr and Mary Ellen Cheatham. Both of whom pre-deceased him. He is survived by his wife : Margaret R. Washington and two nephews and their wives : Gregory & Lena Rogers (Pennsylvania) and Johnny & Jennifer Rogers (North Carolina) and many, many friends.

He was a Christian man of strong faith and a member of Tallowood Baptist Church and was appreciated and admired by all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband to his wife Margaret of almost 57 years. They met and were married in Midland, TX in 1960.

During WWII, he was one of the “few and proud Marines”, who served in the invasion of Okinawa on Easter Sunday in 1945. He is a very strong supporter of the Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg, TX. After serving in the U.S. Marines, he graduated from Texas A&I.

He was an employee first of Magnolia Petroleum Company, which later changed to Mobil, until his retirement in 1957. He managed the construction and operation of the Parks Booster Station adjacent to Mobil’s Pegasus Plant south of Midland, TX.

Al and Margaret first lived in Hobbs, NM. He later moved to Lafayette, LA and then to New Orleans, LA. During that time, he was sent on special assignment to Mobil’s Cameron Plant in Cameron Parish, LA because the chief executive in Mobil’s New York office said, “there’s just one man who can fix the problem there and that is Al Washington.” He was known for his ability to solve problems. He was transferred to Houston to the Natural Gas Department where he and his wife lived in Lakeside Estates from 1971 until the present.

He cared about the neighborhood and initiated negotiations with the city of Houston for the property to be transformed into a park for the homeowners of Lakeside Estates and Lake Forest. Subsequently the park named for him – Washington Park at Lakeside. He did many other things to benefit various groups. As one friend said, “he had a generous heart.” Another friend said, “He was always there to hear me out and say things to make me laugh.” He was a person of sound judgement and was respected and loved by all who knew him.
