Born: January 24, 1963 in Houston, Texas
He began a new journey on July 7, 2013
Youngest child of Onnie Gerald and Evelyn Antonia Albrecht Collins.
Alan began life with a smile most everyday, and continued that wonderful contagious smile all his short life of 50 years. It preceded, most often with laughter and joy for all concerned. Even though lately suffering a lot of pain, he still had that lovely smile for his family and visitors. This smile and his personality made him many friends outside the family. Hardly a bar b que or get together took place among friends and relatives that Alan wasn't invited to. His resume was that of a people person.
Alan was adventurous. His younger years found him fishing, hiking, exploring, camping a lot of times in his back yard, or doing something in the outdoors, weather was not an obstacle. The activities continued as a hobby for the rest of his life. He loved riding his tricycle, bouncing on his wooden rocking horse, and always wore a red worn out cowboy hat that once belonged to his brother. He also loved his bicycle, dirt bike and motorcycle. He rode many a happy mile all the time telling his mom he always observed the speed limits except of course on his tricycle. He loved animals, especially cats and dogs and gave them a loving home his entire life. Alan's work was alarm systems, fire alarms & camera installations. Doing an alarm system for a buisness near Christmas one year, Alan was in the attic belting out a rock and roll Christmas song that carried out to all the offices via the air vents. After several repeated verses, he was finally requested to refrain and let the employees get back to work. In his later years he graduated out of the alarm system contracting and specializing in remodeling homes and all types of carpentry work. Several of his customers visited him recently in his last few weeks of life, a testament to his character.
Survived by his mother, Evelyn Collins of Shenandoah, Texas; his wife, Shelia Chamrad of Onalaska, Texas and her extended family; two sisters: Sandra Sullivan of Spring, Texas and Deniese Meinke of Splendora, Texas and a brother Craig Collins of Magnolia, Texas and their families, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families as well as many friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Onnie Gerald Collins.
We know Alan is completing his journey now, and as a Christian, he has reached his destination with that smile for the keeper of the heavens that greeted him. Jesus has added another angel to his flock. Alan will be greatly missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have known him during his short life here on earth.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 10th from 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Thursday, July 11th in the Family Chapel of Brookside Funeral Home.
