Funeral services for Richard Coleman Stubblefield, Jr. will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 12 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Dr. Tom Harris will officiate. The family will receive friends at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday. Mr. Stubblefield, 78, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 6 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center.
Dick was born August 11, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the late Richard and Naomi (Moss) Stubblefield. The family eventually moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. He attended Hot Springs High School, The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and graduated from Memphis State University in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1965, he and Mary Ann Cunningham were married in Humboldt, Tennessee. Dick served in the army before returning home to work for his parents at Stubby’s BBQ. After leaving the restaurant business, he bought Greenley Foods and later Hot Springs Packing Company, where he enjoyed a long career in the wholesale food manufacturing industry. While living in Hot Springs, he was active in the Lions Club, Gideons International, Hot Springs Masonic Lodge and Rotary where he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mr. Stubblefield will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Sherman; daughter, Julie Olmstead and her husband Lee of Sherman; son, John Stubblefield of Hot Springs; and two grandchildren, Clayton Olmstead of Dallas and Claire Olmstead of Redlands, California. He was preceded in death by his parents.
