Kenneth Don Smith

Kenneth Don Smith, 82, passed unexpectedly October 3, 2022 at St. Vincent Hospital following a short illness. He was born September 8, 1940 in Malvern, AR the son of the late Kenneth and Corine (Wiley) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter Ashley Lawrence.

Don attended Magnet Cove High School until his senior year when he moved to West Virginia and graduated from Ravenswood High School, Class of 1958. Following graduation, Don worked for the Ravenswood Newspaper before starting his career as a Steelworker with Constellium (formerly Kaiser Aluminum). He was a proud member of the United Steelworkers of America, Local 5668, for 38 years. After retirement in December 2000, he returned to Hot Springs, Arkansas to live out his remaining life.

Don attended and was a lifelong member of Shorewood Hills United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Hot Springs YMCA. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his two fur-babies (Corbin and Ellie). He loved to tell stories and funny jokes. His compassion for others and sense of humor was his trademark.

Don is survived by his best friend and wife of 40 years, Ell Smith, and his sister Colleen Capps. He had a total of eight children combined: Kim Bennett (Bryan), Linda Strickland (Buddy), Marla Wethington (Randy), Carla Smith (Chriss), Augjai Smith (Pat), Sharon Vincent (Tim), Sonny Evans (Shannon), and Jason Evans. His grandchildren are: Misti Roberts, Callie Hignight, Brenna and Blake Garnes, Elizabeth, Keith, and Courtney Smith, Brent and Jake Wethington, Jeremy Lawrence, and Hayley Lewis. Don’s great grandchildren are: Jaxon, Jace, and Sylvi Roberts, Everlee and Colt Hignight, Grayson Smith, Arabella Lawrence, Brielle White, and Ashlynn and JP Lewis, and many nieces and nephews.

Due to his last wishes of cremation, there will be no viewing or funeral. He wanted to be remembered the way he was. Those who wish to remember Don in a special way can make gifts or donations to their local church, humane society, or VFW. The family will send notice and details of future “Celebration of Life” ceremony.
