Known to many as "Tootie," Dorothy Marie Cooper, 86, passed away peacefully at home in Anchorage, Alaska, surrounded by family on May 30, 2022.
Tootie, born on July 2, 1935, in Hot Springs, Ark., was the youngest of eight children born to parents Robert L. Helms and A. Jeanette West. She met Steve E. Cooper through business, and they wed on June 19, 1967, at First Baptist Church, 10th Avenue and L Street, in Anchorage.
She was owner of Cooper Construction Company from 1967-2013, The Office Lounge 1964-2004, as well as The Carousel Lounge 1967-2004.
She is survived by children, Genny A. Breshears and Steve (Jennifer) Cooper; stepchildren, Darlene Cooper (LeRoy Harrison) and Jim (Dawn) Cooper; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and so many dear nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will begin at 10 a.m., on June 18, 2022, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs. Condolences or flowers may be sent through Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Tootie enjoyed dividing time between homes in Anchorage; San Diego, Calif.; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Hot Springs. Along with her time spent traveling, she enjoyed sewing, reading, playing stocks and shooting craps.
Dorothy was passionate about work and family. All who knew her admired her wielding of an unparalleled personality and incomparable charisma.
