Dennis Morrison

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Major Dennis Morrison, who left us peacefully on November 9, 2024. Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor whose legacy of service, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Born December 6, 1949, Dennis dedicated 20 years to serving his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Major. His service was characterized by integrity, leadership, and a deep sense of duty. After retiring from the Army, Dennis continued to serve his community with the same dedication. He volunteered countless hours with Hospice care, providing comfort to families during their most difficult times, and as a tutor for children, helping young minds grow and thrive.

Dennis’ intellectual pursuits were as varied and vibrant as his personality. He earned his Master’s degrees in Special Education and Divinity, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and helping others. He was passionate about making a difference in people’s lives, and his work in both education and ministry touched many.

Dennis was an active and cherished member of Pikes Peak Park Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, where his faith and love for others shone brightly. Whether leading Bible study, assisting with church events, or singing in the choir, Dennis found joy in serving his church family. His love of music was profound, and he often found peace and solace in classical compositions. He was particularly moved by the songs Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers and You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban, which resonated deeply with his own journey of faith and perseverance.

In his personal life, Dennis had many passions. He was an avid fisherman, finding tranquility in the quiet of nature, and a skilled pool player who enjoyed spending time with friends in good-natured competition. His love for westerns and travel brought him many adventures, often shared with those he loved. Above all, Dennis had a remarkable ability to connect with others, whether through a hearty laugh, a heartfelt conversation, or a song sung from the heart.

Dennis is survived by his wife; Ora Hagins-Morrison, brother; Joe Morrison, sisters; Carolyn McBane, sons; Matthew Morrison and John Morrison, daughters; Rachael Selph, and Jessica Morrison, grandchildren; Jasmine, JJ, RuthAn, Ashley, Jacob, Elizabeth, and Dany, great-grandchild; Nevaeh, cousin; Danny Morrison, many nieces and nephews of the Morrison family, as well as a host of extended family, friends, and colleagues whose lives he touched.

He was predeceased by his parents; Oma Morrison and Evelyn Bast, brother; Richard Marlar, and sisters; Patricia A. Bryant, and Betty Chikar.

Dennis Morrison’s life was one of faith, service, love, and song. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire those who carry forward the lessons he taught and the example he set. "You raise me up, to more than I can be"—these words will forever remind us of the strength, love, and inspiration he brought to us all.
