Stephen Albert Kula born September 21, 1949 to Frank and Elizabeth Kula, grew up in North Hollywood, California, and moved to East Honolulu with his parents and siblings in 1963. He graduated from Maryknoll High School and earned degrees from Leeward Community College, Colorado State University, Kennedy Western University and Chaminade University. Steve was a leader in the non-profit sector holding senior executive positions with the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts, Hospice Hawaii, the ARC and Legacy of Life Hawaii and serving on the Hawaii State Board of Nursing, National Council of Hospice Professionals, Hawaii State Hospice Network, Pacific Health Ministries of Hawaii, Home Care and Hospice Division of the Healthcare Association of Hawaii, Interfaith Ministries, and Association of Organ Procurement Organizations. He was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 2015 and served Holy Trinity Parish, ending the celebration of mass with his voice booming “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life!”
Dr. Stephen A Kula, PhD, MPT, MS, BS, HNA, passed away at Holy Trinity Church on January 1, 2024. He is survived by the love of his life Deborah Kula, his daughter Raechel Kula and her children Lydia, Bradley and Amelia (Noah) Mathi, his son Chris Kula and wife Kristin Bisbee and daughter Madolyn Bell, his brother David Kula, his sister and brother-in-law Leslie and Blair Craig, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents Fritz and Vickie Kula, sister and brother-in-law Michelle and Jared Kaufmann Sr., and nephew David Kula.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kuli’ou’ou.
