Edith Kimiyo Furushima, 94, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away on April 17, 2014 on Maundy Thursday of Holy Week in the Christian calendar. Known affectionately as "Kimi" to family and friends, she was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ for more than five decades. She loved reading her Bible, singing worship songs, and especially enjoyed listening to her children (Linda and Randy) play traditional hymns on the piano. She was by vocation a seamstress of various styles, including aloha to designer wear. She also taught many children in her sewing classes at Singer on Bishop Street in downtown Honolulu for many years. In later years, she provided designing and tailoring skills to several clothing boutiques in major Wakiki hotels, including the Sheraton Waikiki and the Moana Hotel.
Edith is survived by her daughter, Linda Y. Kalama; son, Randall Y. Furushima; brother, Ralph Uyema; sisters, Winifred Nakamura and Muriel Uyema; and grandchildren, Allison R. Kalama and Joy K. Furushima.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Kalihi Union Church. Visitation will be at 4pm and service will begin at 5pm.
