Wilma A. Ritchey

Wilma Brewer Ritchey, age 84, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2017, surrounded by her family. Wilma is survived by her beloved husband, Ferris S. Ritchey, Jr.; her children, Ferris S. Ritchey III (Pam), Tracy B. Ritchey (Karen), Anne Ritchey Owens (Ben), Maria Ritchey Pisano (Mike); grandchildren Candace Knight (Wayne), Blake Wood, Cameron Ritchey, Gillian Ritchey, Luke Owens, Hannah Owens, Isabella Pisano, and Samantha Pisano; and great-grandchildren Emma, Wyatt, Clayton, Taylor and Logan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anna Brewer, as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the Ritchey family, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Wilma was preceded in death by her brother Samuel Brewer and sister Amanda Sheffield. Wilma graduated from Childersburg High School and attended the Carraway School of Nursing. Upon graduation, Wilma worked as a Registered Nurse for the Birmingham Veterans Administration Hospital and the Department of Public Health, from which she retired to raise her children. The family wishes to express our gratitude to Dr. David DeAtkine at St. Vincent's Hospital, the caring staff at Comfort Care Hospice, and our wonderful caregivers Carmel Tanner, Annie Thomas, Susie Stancil, and Erica Bell. Services will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Cahaba Heights United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at noon. Immediately following will be a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery. The family invites everyone to join them for lunch at the church following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Children's Home: 3140 Zelda Court, Suite 100, Montgomery, AL 36106.
