Marcus "Mark" Harold Russell, age 78, of Odenville, Alabama passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, from complications of Parkinson’s. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama July 8, 1944, to Marcus Lafayette Russell and Jewel Brittain.
Mark graduated from Ensley High School and went on to the University of Alabama, graduating with BS in Business in 1968. He was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and made the varsity football team under Bear Bryant briefly before he was injured.
Mark was recruited by Owens Corning Fiberglas to be in sales and marketing and was promoted through the executive ranks the fastest of any other recruit at that time. Mark went on to become a pioneer and leader in the building products industry in fiberglass applications. He blazed a trail for new and innovative products out of fiberglass and other composite materials.
His hobbies included hunting in the Rockies on horseback for elk, mule deer and antelope.
He was an avid offshore boater and angler. He loved all things Alabama football, and he holds the record for the most viewings of the film, “Jeremiah Johnson,” quoting often from the movie. Mark loved to smoke Texas style Bar-B-Que on his smoker and spend time with his family at the beach.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Pamela McHenry Russell, his loving son, Brittain Inge Russell, (Leighanne), daughter, Angela Hope Sheets, (Brian), his stepsons, Robert Charles West, Jr., and Ryan McHenry West, grandchildren Austin and Brennen Sheets, Benjamin and Faith Russell, great grandchild, Nixon Sheets, his brother, Steve L. Russell, (Melinda Jane), brother, Phillip Patton Russell, (Pamela Ann), and niece Katherine Elise Pounds, (Lee), and nephews, Robert Marcus Russell, Matthew Clay Russell, (Hannah), and his faithful golden retriever, Lexi.
A reception for friends and family of Mark will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood, AL, followed by a celebration honoring the life of Mark at 11:00 AM.
