Leila "Sissy" W. Doster

Leila (Sissy) Walton Doster of Birmingham, Alabama passed away of a broken heart on December 16, 2024 at the age of 81 surrounded by her loving family. Sissy was born June 12, 1943 in Selma, Alabama to Goode Bryan Walton Jr. and Leila Mayes Walton. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Thomas Edwin Doster III, to whom she was married for 60 years. Sissy is survived by her children Walton Charles Doster, Julia Doster Crowell (Brian) and Thomas Edwin Doster IV (Diana), and her eight grandchildren Walton Gray Doster, Rushton Walls Doster, Andrew Thacker Doster, Grace Hadley Crowell, Brian Doster Crowell, Jackson Viles Crowell, Thomas Edwin Doster V and Hamilton Grace Doster.

Sissy graduated from Columbia College in 1966 and went on to teach high school English before dedicating most of her time to helping Thomas start Doster Construction Company in 1969. She kept the books early on and was instrumental in the company’s success and growth throughout the years. Sissy was known for many things but mostly for the love of her family and her love of sports. She spent the last several years cheering her grandchildren on from afar watching them play football, hockey, baseball and lacrosse every chance she got.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Bluebird Homecare of Alabama. We will forever be thankful for Belinda Brooks, Angela Rothrock, Martia Lewis, Rolencia Bostic, Tarlesha Finley, Martia Simmons, Keoto Cooper and Bernice Culpepper.

A memorial service will be held on January 2, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Canterbury United Methodist Church chapel.
