Jane Kay Newell was born on October 23, 1955. She grew up in Montgomery, AL, and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Alabama, and then moved to Kingsport, TN, to work at Eastman Chemical Company. She then earned a Master’s Degree in Environmental Chemistry from East Tennessee State University. After the birth of her children, her career path changed several times, including pharmaceutical sales, investment planning with Bank of Tennessee, and teaching Zumba. In her retirement, she relocated to Birmingham, AL to be closer to family. She passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly on August 29, 2019 due to a heart condition. She is foremost remembered as the most wonderful, loving, intelligent, fun-loving, and energetic mother and grandmother. She had an unparalleled joy for living, and always looked forward to her next experience and adventure. She was also known for her exquisite skills and creativity in home cooking, sewing, and decorating. She infused everyday life with a graciousness that will be honored, appreciated, and remembered forever. She is preceded in death by her mother, Jane Redden Newell. She is survived by her father, Ted S. Newell, her sister Amy Newell, both of Montgomery, AL, her brother David Newell of Franklin, TN, her children Kathleen Pridgen and Max Pridgen, son-in-law Brad Bennett, grandchildren Dorothy Bennett, Thomas Bennett and Charles Merritt Bennett, and former husband Tom Pridgen, all of Birmingham, AL, as well as countless friends in several states. The family cordially invites friends to a Memorial Celebration of her life on October 6th, at the Clubhouse on Highland, 2908 Highland Avenue, Birmingham, Al 35205 commencing at noon until three o'clock in the afternoon.
