James Perry Morgan

Perry Morgan (Pappa) lived a blessed life. Although facing some health challenges early in life as a childhood diabetic, he developed a keen sense of strength and resilience through them and now is at peace with the Lord. He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine, of 49 years. Her unconditional love and tender care was the foundation and inspiration for his family. Perry was born in Birmingham, graduated from Shades Valley High School (1968), The University of Alabama (1972) where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, and Cumberland Law School (1975). He was a member of Mountain Brook Community Church, the Birmingham Bar Association, Vestavia Country Club, and the Monday Morning Quarterback Club. He lived his life in such a way as to make a difference in the lives of those he represented professionally in private practice for 44 years, those he cared for and loved. He loved spending time with family, coaching his children in youth sports, and attending his grandchildren’s dance recitals, baseball, basketball and tennis events. He was an avid Alabama fan, who also enjoyed time with his friends on the golf course.

Survived also by his children, Shelley M. Anthony (Jimmy), James Perry Morgan, Jr. and Travis C. Morgan (Elizabeth) which he loved dearly, was so proud of and thankful for; his grandchildren, Mary Katelyn Anthony, Sarah Morgan Anthony, James C. Anthony and Hailey Mullins- Portera who he adored greatly; his sister, Dale Morgan Miller (David) whose tenderness, support, and love meant so much to him; as well as sister-in-laws, Carol O. Perez and Judy O. Sisson (John), many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Perry A. Morgan, Jr. and Barbara C. Morgan; In-laws, Mr. Travis H. Odum and Zona D. Odum; grandparents, Perry A. Morgan, Sr. and Elva M. Morgan, James M. Callaway, Sr. and Fannie F. Callaway.

Visitation will be held at Mountain Brook Community Church Thursday, July 15th at 10:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
