She is survived by her sister Ann Buettner Glass, brother in law Edward Glass, and nephew Eric Glass as well as Schatze and Lucy, her cats who will be surprised to find themselves in North Dakota soon! She is predeceased by her parents and aunts and uncles. Grace was many things: a loving sister, dear and faithful friend, amazing aunt, and forever a beloved child of God.
Grace was a gifted mathematician, having earned her PhD at the University of Alabama Birmingham. She taught at Birmingham Southern College for several years and later worked as a statistician at Bell South Telephone. She took early retirement, got an associate degree in horticulture, became a Master Gardener and volunteered at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and belonged to several garden clubs. She volunteered at the Birmingham Jail, teaching math to students earning their GED. She loved animals, especially cats and was never without at least one.
Grace's faith journey was a lifelong quest ultimately leading her to St Matthew's Anglican Church where she found redemption, comfort, spiritual peace, and joy. Grace will be remembered as a kind and gentle woman, generous to a fault, who used her talents to help others. Many thanks to Compassus Hospice and Brookdale skilled nursing for care during her final weeks.
A visitation for Grace will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL 35209 with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM . A graveside service will occur Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Holland Cemetery in Castleberry, AL
