Eldred Burder "Ted" Teague Jr.

Eldred Burder Teague, Jr., fondly known as Ted, died June 29, 2023. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 4, 1934, he was the son of the late Dr. Eldred Burder Teague and Martha Clare Schofield Teague. He graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham in 1952. He attended Vanderbilt University and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1956, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He received his LLB degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1958. The next year he clerked for Judge Davis F. Stakely of the Alabama Supreme Court in Montgomery. There he met Marie Lauder of Orange Beach, whom he would marry in 1959. He practiced law in Birmingham before moving into a business administration career, beginning with General Motors, and then with several automobile dealerships across the Southeast. He and Marie moved with their family from Birmingham to Baltimore, and then to Memphis. Later they returned to Birmingham where he was with TIECO, Inc. until his retirement.

Ted is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie, and two children: Ronald David Teague (Carmella), and Marian Dian Teague Johnson, both of Birmingham; grandchildren: Charles Eldred Teague of Birmingham, Mary Katherine Teague of Huntsville, Cassidy Marie Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Avery Clare Johnson of Tuscaloosa; his brother, James Leslie Teague (Betty) of Greenville, South Carolina, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was an active member of Riverchase United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club of Homewood. In his youth Ted enjoyed many summers at Camp Winnataska, working as a Blackfoot while making lifelong friendships. As an adult, he volunteered several years in various positions, including Director of Main and Chico Camps, Camp Committee Programming Chairman, and Camp Committee General Chairman. Having six generations of his family to graduate from the University of Alabama, it was natural for his loyalty to be reserved for his beloved Crimson Tide football team. Over the years the family spent many happy fall weekends at games. In the last few years, he has expanded his allegiance to the Alabama women’s softball team. In addition, Ted treasured many activities with his family and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family on Friday July 14th from 5:30pm to 7pm. The Memorial Service will commence at 5:30 pm and a reception will immediately follow at Ridout’s Valley Chapel located at 1800 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, Alabama 35209.
