Earl Stephens Mann Jr.

Earl Jr. was born to Earl S Mann, Sr. and Laura Moody Mann. He grew up in Edgewood/Homewood area. He attended Edgewood Elementary School and Shades Cahaba High School. Earl Jr. received a BS degree in Business at the University of Alabama. He was in the Theta Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force and served in many different posts. While posted in Mountain Home, Idaho Earl Jr. met, courted and married Constance Marie Shepherd, the love of his life. Upon completion of her nursing diploma, the happy couple moved back to Birmingham, AL.

Earl Jr. joined the family business, Mann Brothers Building Company. He became an integral part of this company working 25+ years overseeing construction and renovations. As an honest, trustworthy business man he gained the respect of the Birmingham business arena.

It was Earl Jr.’s infectious smile and wit that he will be remembered by. For Earl Jr.’s witty demeanor was a hallmark of who he was. He never met a stranger, speaking to everyone from the janitor to the CEO. He had an infectious smile and was always up for a good prank. Most of all, Earl Jr. was “a good and faithful servant” for our Lord.

Earl Jr. is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Laura Mann, and his daughter Janice Mann Yester. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Connie Mann. They had four children, Laura Mann Coleman, Steve Mann (Barbara), Sandra Yester (Marion) and son-in-law Steve Yester. Earl and Connie had four grandchildren; Marie Coleman Caine (Eric), Zachary Coleman, Annie and Maggie Yester. Daniel Caine, born on Earl Jr.’s birthday, is the great grandson. He is also survived by his two brothers, Robert Mann (Jane) and Richard Mann (Judy). Many nephews and nieces were loved by “Uncle Earl”.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The family will receive friends and family from 11 am to 12 noon on Friday, September 15th at Trinity Methodist Church in Homewood, AL. A celebration of life service will be held from 12 noon to 1 pm at the church with internment at Elmwood Cemetery immediately after.
