Donald David Traywick

Donald David Traywick, age 73, of Homewood Alabama, died on January 28, 2011 after complications following heart surgery. Donald was born to the late Mildred and Harvey Traywick in Wenonah AL on December 5, 1937. He graduated from Chilton County High School in 1956. In January 1957 he married Sherry Gail Dover and they enjoyed 54 years together. He will be missed greatly and remembered forever for his wicked sense of humor and generosity. He retired from RUST after 18 years of service in 1997 after previously working for American Bridge Division of US Steel Corporation for the previous 24 years. He was ordained a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Roebuck Plaza in 1964. He was an active member and former Worshipful Master of the Shades Valley Masonic Lodge 829 and a member of the A&A Scottish Rite. Donald was an avid amateur radio operator, call sign WDDDT, and particularly enjoyed relaying messages from service personnel abroad prior to the advent of the internet. His home is full of the results of his fine work working skills and exacting craftsmanship. Left to cherish his memory and loving remember his spirit are his wife Sherry, daughter Dee Willis, husband James and grandson Aubrey of Birmingham, son Donald Jr. (Don) and wife Jackie of Houston Texas, brother, Mack Traywick and wife June, nephew Quinton Traywick and wife Donna, and nephew Bill Traywick and wife Debbie all of Clanton, AL, and step granddaughters Carey and Erin Willis of San Antonio, TX The family would like to thank Dr. Vance Plumb and the staffs from Kirkland Clinic and University Hospital for their dedication, professionalism and support over the past 22 years. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday January 31, 2010 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday February 1, 2011 at Dawson beginning at 2:00 PM, with Dr, Gary Fenton, Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. Jim Simpson officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be sent to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home and Family Ministries P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham AL, 35236. Our hearts are filled with the love he has showed us throughout his life. His legacy lives on in all of us, especially the grandson he so patiently nurtured for the last eight years. The world's best granddaddy has gone to heaven!
