Betty M. Gillespie (80) of Birmingham, AL left this earth peacefully to be with our Heavenly Father, July 12, 2019 surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of Charley P. (Chuck) Gillespie for 26 years. Betty was the youngest of 8 children and preceded in death by her parents, Edward Fenton and Minnie Elizabeth Minor and 5 siblings. She was a mother, grandmother and loved by many. She is survived by Fonda Johnson (sister), Bill Minor (brother), sons Charles A. Tarter, Jr. (Michelle), Roderick C. Tarter, Edward W. Tarter (Sarah Kathryn) and grandchildren Ava, Giselle, Charlie, Will, Ella, and Pippen who fondly called her "Honey"; and an extended family Brenda (Lou), Mark (Cheryl), Sara (Ron), and Julie (Lance); 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Betty loved music, dancing, and people. Love of family was her heart and soul. Betty graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School, Morris, AL and retired from Alabama Power after 23 years. She was a member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church,2600 Vestavia Drive on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 1pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vestavia Hills Baptist Church are encouraged.
