Amy Sanders

Amy Sanders, 47, of Mountain Brook, AL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 after her brave battle with breast cancer. She was born on September 15, 1970 in Decatur, AL where she graduated from Decatur High School. She graduated from The University of Alabama, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She then taught in the Birmingham area schools and tutored for several years. Her greatest passion and joy in life were her four beautiful children. You could always find her on the sideline cheering for her boys or backstage preparing her daughter for a dance competition. Amy was an avid Alabama fan and loved watching Crimson Tide football with her family. A mom of four children, Brookwood Forest Elementary was an important part of her life for many years. She is a Past President of the PTO and served in countless parent volunteer roles. As a committed volunteer at Canterbury United Methodist Church, Amy taught vacation bible school and children’s Sunday School. Her happy place was relaxing at the beach as well as taking road trips with her precious family. Amy cared deeply for her community and was an active and sustaining member of The Junior Women’s Committee of 100, The Junior League of Birmingham where she served as Chair of Sustainer Relations, Children’s Arts Guild, Service Guild of Birmingham, Vanities Dance Club, Canterbury Altar Guild, Canterbury Shepherds Sunday school class and more. She was preceded in death by her father, Levi Smith. Amy is survived by her husband of 22 years, H. Brantley Sanders, III and four children, Mary Delashaw (Mary Della), H. Brantley, IV (Bud), John Robert Walker (John Robert) and George Winn (George). Amy is also survived by her mother, Shirley Smith, her brothers Roger Smith (Marsha) and Barry Smith (Lori), her father & mother-in-law Karen and Brant Sanders, brother-in-law Jason Sanders (Jennifer) and sister-in-law Sara Schilleci (Joseph), several uncles and aunts and precious nieces and nephews.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Brookwood Forest Elementary PTO.
