Mary (Vay) was born on June 8,1929, in Long Branch, New Jersey, to John Joseph (Jack) and Mary Lascelles Walker.
She grew up in Freehold, New Jersey and graduated from Freehold High School in 1947. Classmates remember her as a person you can recall with pleasure with her giggly smile, unaffected attitude and lovely locks. She attended Trenton State College and Brookdale Community College.
She married Joseph P. Zarnowski in 1949. Together, they raised their children, Laura and Paul, in two homes Joe built in Freehold. They shared many memorable day trips to Manasquan beach with family and friends. They also enjoyed having members of the Freehold Regional High School Class of 1970 build a Homecoming float at their home.
Mary worked in the business offices of Freehold Rug Mill, Freehold Foodtown, Lawn Doctor and Sunshine Biscuits where accounting was her specialty.
She married Graham Gaskell in June 1979. They excelled at ballroom dancing and enjoyed it greatly. Their travels included Europe and the Caribbean. She was particularly fond of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. They have been living at St. Andrews Estates in Boca Raton, Florida for more than twenty years. While there, they were avid supporters of the Friends of the Arts. Graham has been a wonderful, deeply loving and caring husband.
She is survived by her husband Graham, children Laura Strauber, Paul Zarnowski and grandson Justin (Mary) Strauber. She is also survived by her sisters Lee (Paul) Strohauer and Nancy (Malcolm) Greenaway. Her parents, husband Joe and sister Joan predeceased her.
