Karen D. Johnson passed away peacefully on October 20, 2022. Karen, her husband Wesley, and their young family (Eugene, Kenneth, and Jennifer) relocated from East New Haven Connecticut to Fort Lauderdale, where they established a private court servicing business in 1979.
During her long career, Karen served with the provost of Yale University as a senior executive assistant. Later, in 1987, she joined the Broward College family, first at the newly opened Broward College Pompano Outreach Center as an administrative assistant. Within a year she moved to the Broward College District Offices serving with the associate vice president/registrar. Karen earned her associate of science degree and numerous certifications from Broward College. She was fluent in French and was fond of helping French-speaking students navigate the college environment. She was honored with several awards for her outstanding service to the college. Her excellence led to numerous promotions elevating her from administrative assistant to executive assistant, and ultimately to senior executive assistant. She retired from Broward College in 2009, where she ended her career after serving with the provost and North Campus president as the senior executive assistant.
Karen was a kind and patient person. As a devout Catholic, she lived out her faith in deeds, behavior, and care for the needy; while always willingly extending a helping hand through volunteerism, charity, and love.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Wesley and daughter Jennifer Clarke-Wright. She leaves to celebrate her life children: Eugene Clarke, Jr., Kenneth Clarke, Sr, and grandchildren- Christopher Wright, Johnathan Wright, Austin Clarke, K.J. Clarke, Amber Clarke, Kelsey Clarke, and Nicholas Greco. Also surviving her are great-grandchildren Ivy, Riley, Annaleah, and Alena, special family member Claire Kenney, a host of other family and friends, and a special friend, Dr. Barbara Bryan.
Karen was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and colleague. She finished the race - she kept the faith.
