George Alrick West

George, affectionately called Benny, was born on March 5, 1940 in Kingston, Jamaica; W.I. Son of Henry Bancroft West and Enid Agatha West née Jarrett.

George was a retired Bookkeeper and Entrepreneur. Having received secondary education in accounting and finance, George subsequently worked in several financial and managerial positions in Jamaica’s Entertainment and Hotel Industry, with Palace Amusement Company and Lai Corporation. George and his wife Belva also formed a venture into the garment industry, with Debonaire Garment Factory located within the JIDC Complex on Duke Street in Kingston. After migrating with his family to Miami, George spent many years working as a Bookkeeper with the Community Services branch of the Catholic Archdiocese in Miami as well as H&R Block. He was also a devoted member of Parkway Baptist Church.

George was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Cousin to whom family was everything. The highlight of George’s life was his relationship with his beloved wife Belva. He will be remembered for the fierceness with which he protected his immediate and extended family and his tireless focus on encouraging a positive direction and outcome for his three sons.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Belva Helen West née Arscott; his father, Henry Bancroft West; mother, Enid; brothers, Donald, Victor, Lawson, and Henry Jr. He is survived by his loving sons, David and Douglas of Miami, Christopher (Melissa) of Raleigh, NC; granddaughters, Olivia and Violet; sister, Barbara; sister-in-law, Sheila; nieces, Juliet, Donna, Carol, and Marshaleen; nephews, Damien, Darrell, Patrick, William, and Richard; and other family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Fred Hunter Hollywood Funeral Home 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, FL 33024 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. The Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday June 18, 2022 at Parkway Baptist Church 18000 NW 18th Ave, Miami Gardens, FL 33056 from 11:00am to 12:30pm. Interment will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Hollywood Memorial Gardens East, 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, FL 33024
