With heavy hearts, we announce that Theary Sor passed away on March 27th, 2025 surrounded by family. Her dance with cancer for four years exhausted her steps, and she is now able to rest peacefully. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, friend and sister to many. Her journey on this earth was one led by love, compassion, and her unwavering Buddhist faith.
Theary was born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 1959. She grew up with her parents and eight siblings; one brother and seven sisters. As an outcome of the war and genocide in Cambodia, only Theary and her sister survived. She worked as an aid, nursing those injured and in need. This was the story of many displaced families during that difficult period of time. The resilience of Theary led her to pursue a full life of caring and helping others.
In 2010, Theary’s journey brought her to Holland, Michigan. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, and was always adorned in jewelry; dressed up in beautiful clothing, and gathering with those she loved. She was an elegant and graceful beauty, with a gentle and kind heart.
She is survived by her partner, Jeff; her children, daughter Malin and husband Song, son Masato and wife Haruka, son Sothun and wife Sreynith, daughter Kunthea; and the father of her children, Saoreth. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren; Sander, Sandra, Akari, Hiroshi, Sotheabossba, Sothbrosaer, Pannha, Syna, Sokuntheary, Carole and great-grandchildren; Amillia and Virgil.
