Born in Bismarck, ND, Carol eventually moved to Holland and met her husband Irwin “Max” Mathews, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Carol and Max raised their children, Michele and Jim, in Holland and she worked in the banking industry for over 45 years until her retirement. Carol and Max moved north to their cottage in Bitely to enjoy their retirement years.
Carol enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially going out to eat with her husband, going to the casino with her sister Ginny, and playing cards with her friends at the lake. She had a special place in her heart for her granddaughter and great-grandson and loved spending time with both of them.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Walter Finck; parents-in-law Irwin and Hazel Mathews; brother David Finck; sisters-in-law Judy Finck, Maxine Robart, and Nora Mathews; as well as brother-in-law Steven Mathews.
She is survived by her loving husband Max; daughter Michele Mathews and son Jim (Anne) Mathews; granddaughter Krista Mathews (Cody), and great-grandson Cash. She is also survived by sisters Ginny (Larry) Nichols and Diane (Rich) Rouwhorst; and brother Jerry Finck. Also surviving are sisters-and-brothers-in-law Dave (Marlene) Mathews, Tim (Mary) Mathews, Basil Mathews, Marilyn (Randy) Tenhagen, Sue (Bob) Gilbert, and Vicky (Shay) Mathews. In addition, Carol is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Carol will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lakeshore Memorial Services - 11939 James St, Holland, 49424. A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church - 480 152nd Ave, Holland, Michigan.
