Sarah Martha Connelly May

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Mortimer Connelly and Martha “Mattie” Jerusha Felts; her husband, Marvin Ed May; one daughter, Donna Ruth May; two brothers: John Felts Connelly and James Mortimer Connelly; and two sisters: Lettie Araminta Hinds and Mary Ruth Connelly.

She is survived by one sister, Emily (Phil) Lee of Nashville, TN; one son, Kerry (Loralie) May of Cleveland, TN; one daughter, Ramona (Kevin) Tipps of Smyrna, TN; eight grandchildren, Lamar (Emily) May of Tooele, Utah; Maria (Jason) Silvenis of Cleveland, TN; Neal (Meredith) Tipps of Murfreesboro, TN; Collette May of Tooele, Utah; Lindsey (Jesse) Ellsworth of Salt Lake City, Utah; Brandon (Marisa) Tipps of Murfreesboro, TN; Stephen May of Cleveland, TN; Lauren Tipps of Smyrna, TN; and fourteen great- grandchildren.

She was employed with Hamilton County Public Schools for many years, serving as a music teacher and as a librarian. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in many capacities. She also served three 18-month church missions, alongside her husband, Marvin: one to Zimbabwe, Africa; one to Brisbane, Australia; and one to Oakland, California.

She was a music graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. She loved music, reading, cross-stitching, and traveling. She was an extremely accomplished vocalist.

She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

The family will hold a private graveside service. She will be interred at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

A public memorial service will be held on December 12 at 11:00 A.M. EST, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3010 Hamill Road, Hixson, TN.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her name to the Perpetual Education Fund, 50 E. North Temple Street, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84150.
