

He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 26, 1954, to Frank Ashley Shomaker and Suzanne B. Shomaker who preceded him in death. His siblings are Ashley Shomaker of Knoxville, Dede Young of Atlanta and Tish Gailmard of Signal Mountain.
Bob attended the Baylor School and graduated in 1972. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He went on to work for Roadway Transportation before he took over his father’s business, Shomaker and Company which was a manufacturer’s representative for the fastener industry. Upon retirement, Bob was known to take on a number of projects that allowed him to utilize his construction skills he had picked up over the years much of which he learned from the building of his own home.
Bob was also a member of First Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and on the Camp Vesper Point Camp Committee of which he led numerous improvements for the camp over the years. He also worked with Bryan College’s Fort Bluff and lead various projects that culminated in his receipt of an appreciation award for his construction of the Hawk’s Landing building. Bob was also a scout master for many years as his two sons participated in the Boy Scouts of America, both receiving their Eagle Scout rank.
Bob is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kimberly Davis Shomaker, and his son Robert William Shomaker, Jr of Knoxville, and his spouse Kristin Dawn Shomaker, grandchildren Kate and Larkin and son Daniel Alexander Shomaker of Hixson, spouse Tiffany Shomaker, grandchildren Trisity, Trevin, and Kimber.
Bob was fondly known for his consistent willingness to help his friends and to give of his time and expertise. He is also known for his sense of humor and ability to tell stories.
The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 AM Friday, September 2, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church 554 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402. A memorial service will begin at 11 AM with Jim Suddath officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can made to Camp Vesper Point or the Boy Scouts of America in Bob’s honor.
