He was the son of the late Paul and Ann McMahan of Athens, TN and brother of the late Harold McMahan of Cleveland, TN.
Paul retired, as Vice President of Systems, from Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Red Bank Jaycees which proposed and implemented a plan to create the first Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department. He served as the first chief of that fire department for 10 years. In 2004 the City of Red Bank named a fire engine in honor of him. He was a member of the Red Bank Baptist Church and very much enjoyed ministering to the shut-ins from his church.
Paul is affectionately known as “BawBaw” by his family. He loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed sports, participating in his younger days and coaching from the sidelines as he got older. He was a big NASCAR fan and enjoyed vacationing in Florida with his family, especially when that could be coupled with a Daytona race.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Joyce; sister Betty Ann McKenzie, Athens, TN; daughter Cindy McMahan, Chattanooga; daughter and son-in-law Robin and Bart Smith, Chattanooga; daughter and son-in-law Paula and Scooter Dodd, Concord, N.C.; grandchildren, Christie Crowe, Micah and Elisha Smith, and Tatiana McMahan, all of Chattanooga, Dustin, Delaney and Darcy Dodd all of Concord, N.C. and several nieces and nephews.
