Martha was born January 19, 1927 in Troy, Ohio to Curtis and Georgia Holder. She graduated from Denison University. Upon graduation, she went to work for IBM, training others to program computers, and was later employed by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she again taught computer programming. Martha was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She was an avid bridge and tennis player, an outdoor enthusiast, and a longtime supporter of the Girl Scouts. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert C. Holder, and a sister, Louise Kimmel.
Martha is survived by her husband, William G. Freels; children, William G. Freels, III (Mary Jo) of Nashville, Anne Freels Bleynat (Edward) of Asheville, North Carolina, and five grandchildren, Web, Elizabeth, and Luke Bleynat, and Ashlynn and Annalee Freels.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Signal Mountain Presbyterian. Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, 612 James Boulevard, Signal Mountain, TN 37377, or to the charitable organization of your choice.
