Joe was born in Cleveland, TN to the late Johnny and Marie McKinney. He was a 1969 graduate of Tyner High School. Joe retired from Overnight Transport Company with over 35 years of service. He was a member of New Shepherd Hill Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. Joe was a longtime member of Harrison Masonic Lodge #114 F& AM, Past Master of Ooltewah Masonic Lodge #741 F&AM, Chattanooga York Rite Mason, and the Alhambra Shrine.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Deborah Sue McKinney and Jane McKinney Bonine; granddaughter, Brooke McKenzie Eaves.
Joe is survived by his wife, Janet Quarles McKinney; children, Leatha (Jeff) Eaves and John (Angelia) McKinney; step-children, Deward Neal, Melissa Neal, and Tammy White; 6 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren; brother, Billy David (Renee) McKinney; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11 am to 2 pm on Friday, January 29, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral and Masonic services for Joe will follow at 2 pm on Friday, at the North Chapel with Brother Terry Plemons officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
